Florence Fennel Romanesco
Foeniculum vulgare azoricum (Foeniculum dulce)
Annual version of wild fennel, cultivated for its large crisp bulbs which are great sliced in salads or baked. Traditional European plant with beautiful aniseed taste. Use feathery tops for garnish or in salads. To harvest cut the bulb just below the ground and the stumps may throw up some more feathery shoots. These plants are not prone to pests and diseases, in fact may help to repel them, but it is very important to keep them well watered. Space 20cm apart. Punnet of 6.
