Prunella vulgaris
Highly regarded wound herb with a long history of use in folk medicine.  Also good for  stimulating the immune system, and for trating fevers and diarrhoea. Leaves are edible - wash them to remove tannins before adding to salads or infusing in cold water for a refreshing tea. Robust sprawling plant – good ground cover - with coppery-purple spikes in early summer which are highly attractive to bees. An olive-green dye can be made from the flowers and stems. Easy to grow but requires some moisture. Full sun or part shade. May become invasive in damp spots but very useful in a forest garden situation.  Height to 15cm when in flower. 9cm pot.
