Old fashioned hardy perennial border plant from the brassica family with pink, purple or white flowers. The young leaves are edible raw, they are high in vitamin C and provide a useful addition to salads. Naturally quite bitter, the leaves are best picked before the plant flowers to reduce the strength of flavour. The flowers are edible in salads too, and the seed contains up to 50% edible oil and can be sprouted and also added to salads. The plant is tolerant of most soil types including poorer soils, and either sun or part shade. Drought hardy. To 80cm when in flower. 9cm pot.
