Thyme English Winter
An essential in any herb garden, this variety has dark green broad leaves which are easy to strip and are a basic ingredient of bouquet garni. It is also indispensible in soups, stews, sauces, stuffing and meat dishes as it aids digestion of fatty foods. Medicinally is has antiseptic, antispasmodic, antioxidant and expectorant qualities. It is useful for treating dry coughs, whooping cough, bronchitis, bronchial catarrh, asthma and laryngitis. Height to 30cm. An essential oil from the leaves is used in perfumery, soaps, toothpaste, mouthwashes and can be used as a spray to help prevent mould. Thyme is an important bee plant as it produces much nectar, and makes delicious flavoured honey, and also forms a good ground cover plant for sunny sites. As a vege garden companion it is said to repel cabbage root fly. 9cm pot.
