Northern Pin Oak
Very ornamental oak, forming an upright, broadly spreading tree with a stunning display of scarlet leaves in autumn (it is more closely related to the Scarlet Oak (Q. coccinea) than the Pin Oak (Q. palustris). Tolerates a range of soils including infertile sandy soils. Also tolerant of heat and droughts. The wood may be used for fence posts, fuel and general construction. The acorns are elliptic in shape, narrower and longer than the Pin Oak. Mature height 20-25m.
