Attractive large endive with finely cut lacy leaves and delicately crispy ribs. Many people assume endives are very bitter but these have a mild nutty flavour. Any bitterness can be removed by blanching - tie up the leaves to exclude sunlight, and by keeping the plants well watered. this is one of the few annuals we still grow in the nursery and in our garden as they form such large plants - great bulk for salads, and leaves can be harvested gradually form the outer edge, meaning longer production period. This means you don't have to work the soil to plant new plants all the time, which fits with our permaculture principles. They are rich in vitamins and minerals, especially folate and vitamins A and K, and high in fibre. As well as being used in salads, endive leaves are great in soups. 9cm pot. Certified organic plant.
