Amoracia rusticana
Hardy perennial herb well known for its deep roots which are harvested in winter and grated to make horseradish sauce. The leaves are also edible in salads though extremely hot, and the seeds can be sprouted and eaten.
The plant also has many therapeutic uses, including as an antibacterial. It can be used internally for urinary tract infections, kidney stones, fluid retention, cough, bronchitis, achy joints (rheumatism), gallbladder disorders, sciatic nerve pain, gout, colic, and intestinal worms in children. Externally it can be used on painful and swollen joints or tissues and for minor muscle aches.
The leaves can be made into a tea to spray on plants to control fungal diseases. Full sun or part shade, moister soil preferred. Height to 70cm.
