Veronica stricta, recently reclassified, formerly Hebe stricta
Fast growing endemic shrub found across much of the country, with distinctive pairs of narrow long leaves and white to pale lilac flowers from summer through to winter. The flowers have a mild sweet fragrance and attract bees.  Koromiko is a hardy pioneer plant and is a perfect shrub layer plant in a food forest as it creates good leaf litter, as long as it has enough sun.

Koromiko has been used medicinally by Maori for diarrhea, kidney & bladder problems, childbirth and ulcers. It is traditionally chewed and applied as a poultice to wounds or can be taken internally as a tea. Koromiko is said to have an astringent action and can aid healing by gently constricting tissues to form a protective barrier.
