Lemon Verbena

Price range: $12.50 through $16.50

Aloysia triphylla
Semi-deciduous frost tender shrub to 3m. First brought from South America to Europe by the Spanish and the Portuguese in the 17th century and cultivated for its oil. Sprays of tiny purple or white flowers appear in late spring or early summer. Delicious aromatic herb – leaves are used to add a lemon flavor to fish and poultry dishes, vegetable marinades, salad dressings, jams, puddings, Greek yogurt and beverages. It also is used to make herbal teas, or added to standard tea in place of actual lemon (as is common with Moroccan tea). Much underrated medicinally to sooth the digestion and lift the spirits. It also repels insects – just rub the leaves on your skin.

Certified organic plant.

Medical disclaimer

Jo has a passion for growing herbs but is not a qualified herbalist and has no medical background.

We are lucky to have Patricia Beagle working here at times, who is qualified, and some of her advice does appear on these pages, but herbs act differently for different people and can interact with other medicines. We therefore always recommend that you consult with your own qualified health-care practitioner before using herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing or on any medications.
