Agastache rugosa f. albiflora
White flowering version of this easy to grow herbaceous perennial with lovely anise-mint flavour leaves. One of the 50 fundamental herbs of Chinese herbalism, its medicinal uses include treatment of morning sickness and digestive problems. The leaves and stems are also said to have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. The plant’s Korean name is baechohyang (배초향), but it is more commonly known as banga (방아) in southern parts of Korea, where the herb is extensively cultivated. It is typically used in stews and pancakes. Use the leaves raw in salads (small leaves are best) or with flowers in teas.

This is a lovely easy and  tasty herb for kids to harvest. It’s also a fantastic bee attractor.

Medical disclaimer

Jo has a passion for growing herbs but is not a qualified herbalist and has no medical background.

We are lucky to have Patricia Beagle working here at times, who is qualified, and some of her advice does appear on these pages, but herbs act differently for different people and can interact with other medicines. We therefore always recommend that you consult with your own qualified health-care practitioner before using herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing or on any medications.
