Plants for Kids

The garden should be a place of delight and deliciousness for our tamariki. It’s a sensory world of visual enchantment, smells, tastes, touch and sounds that can generate a lifelong connection to nature, a desire to care for our environment, and the ability to make good food choices for our own health and to provide kai to manaaki others. So here is a collection of our favourite plants to inspire your gardening journey with your kids. Some plants are chosen for their delicious fruit and leaves that can be eaten out of hand in the garden, others like lamb’s ears for their soft leaves that the kids will want to keep stroking like a pet, others for their scent or their ability to withstand constant plucking by rough little hands!
