Also known as Columbine or Granny’s Bonnets. This variety is known as ‘William Guiness’ or ‘Magpie’. One of the most attractive old fashioned varieties currently available with the almost Black sepals (petals) having contrasting White corollas. Hardy perennial for full sun or part shade. Beautiful naturalised under deciduous fruit trees. Despite all parts of the plant reputely being poisonous, no cases of toxicity have been recorded and several sources report the flowers to be not only edible but sweet and juicy. We have tried them and second that! The young leaves can also be added to salads, as long as they are not showing any signs of mildew. The dried and crushed seed can be used to kill external body parasites including head lice. Height to 70cm. 9cm pot.
