Cistus x skanbergii

This easy care, compact evergreen shrub is native to Greece and definitely has a Mediterranean vibe. From late spring to mid summer the silver-green foliage is absolutely smothered in pale pink blooms approx. 3cm across, which are very attractive to bees and butterflies.

This plant enjoys full sun and is very drought hardy, but also frost tolerant. Great for dry banks, sunny borders, gravel gardens, coastal gardens and pots.

Cistus species can form associations with both EM and AM fungi, making them useful in open areas of a food forest to link other species which only form relationships with either EM or AM fungi only. (Most fruit trees and their commonly planted companions such as comfrey, grasses, legumes and vegetables lack affiliation with EM fungi. EM fungi however have the ability to transfer nutrients from a much wider area than AM fungi. If you have EM hosts nearby (think temperate forest species e.g. pine, oak, willow, poplar, eucalyptus, birch, maple), then integrating ‘bridging’ species such as cistus can help transfer nutrients around your system.)

Forms a mound approx. 75cm high x 1m wide

11cm pot.
