False Valerian ‘Pretty Betsy’

Description

Centranthus ruber var coccineus ‘Pretty Betsy’

Robust fleshy perennial with airy dark red clusters of flowers all summer and autumn. These are a darker shade than ‘Rosenrot’. Young leaves have a bitter but crunchy bite and can be used raw or cooked. We often add them to salads in spring. The root can be used in soups.

These plants are very drought hardy and thrive even in very poor stony soils through to clay as long as there is good drainage. They are fantastic for attracting bees and even more so butterflies. Frost hardy. Height to 90cm when in flower.

Note that this plant has no medicinal uses and should not be confused with true valerian (Valeriana officinalis).

Certified Organic plant in 9cm pot.

Freight: We can send up to 9 plants this size (in 9cm pots) for the same freight price or they can be combined with other grades but this will incur higher freight costs.
