Hyssopus officinalis
Perennial evergreen herb with a long history of medicinal uses, including a soothing tea for colds. The fresh or dried leaves can also be used as a flavouring for soups, sauces, meat and egg dishes. The flavour is somewhere between sage and mint and is quite strong.
Pretty, scented dark purple-blue flowers attract bees. Reputed to be a good companion plant for grapes, and certainly look good planted around the base of vines. Some reports also say hyssop deters cabbage white butterflies. Can be trimmed into a hedge or and used as ground cover plant. Full sun. Space 20cm apart. Height to 60cm.
