Medicinal plant much prized by native American Indians for treating respiratory & muscular disorders including asthma, bronchitis, whooping cough etc. It has also been used externally for sprains, bruises and sores. It has antispasmodic and relaxing influences, exerting a soothing influence over nerve irritability, resulting in pain relief even when other measures have failed, according to some sources. It is also said to be one of the most useful aids in giving up smoking tobacco. The dried plant can also be burnt to ward away mosquitoes. Use only under the guidance of a medical practitioner as side effects include severe nausea, and large doses can prove fatal.
Annual plant to 60cm tall, enjoying sun or part shade and some moisture. Suitable for most soil types including heavy clay. 9cm pot. Certified organic plant.
