Dracocephalum moldavicum
Hardy low growing annual to 40cm, cultivated for centuries in Europe. Use the fragrant minty-lemony leaves and flowers for herb tea. It has astringent, tonic and anti-oxidant properties which is said to uplift the spirit, similar to lemon balm (melissa). The seeds are are also astringent, carminative, tonic and being investigated as a source of omega-3 fatty acids. The large bright purple flowers are very long lasting, proportionally large to the plant, and said to be shaped like the toothed head of a dragon – a great plant for kids to grow! They are also extremely attractive to bees. Can self seed generously – though with such a pretty and useful plant, who would mind?! 9cm pot. Certified organic plant. Available approx Oct – March.
