Artemisia ludoviciana
Also known as White Sage, Louisiana Sage, White Sagebrush and Silver Wormwood. Hardy perennial with silvery stems and leaves covered in woolly hairs, spreading by means of rhizomes. A very ornamental plant.

Artemisia species are known for the powerful chemical constituents in their essential oils – substances such as terpenoids, flavonoids, coumarins, caffeoylquinic acids, and sterols which have been extracted for medicinal and other uses such as insecticides, antimalarials, cytotoxins, antihepatotoxic, fungicides, antibacterials, and allelochemicals.

This plant is used by many Native Americans for a variety of medicinal, veterinary, and ceremonial purposes. The astringent leaves and flowering tips can be used for herbal teas and poultices to induce sweating, curb pain and diarrhea. A weak tea is used in the treatment of stomach ache and menstrual disorders. Externally, a wash of the leaves can be applied to itching, rashes, swellings, boils, sores, eczema and as an underarm deodorant. A poultice of the leaves can be applied to spider bites, blisters and burst boils. A snuff of the crushed leaves has been used to treat headaches, the sinuses and nosebleeds.

Height to 50-100cm. Drought hardy. Full sun/part shade. Artemisias tend to be longer lived, more hardy and more aromatic when they are grown in a poor dry soil.
