Acaena inermis purpurea
Also known as Sheep’s Burr and Bidibid. Vigorous, hardy, herbaceous native groundcover plant which forms a tight low carpet of scalloped feathery leaves. Ground-hugging form but its leaves can grow as high as 5cm if growing in light shade when the colour will change from purple to a grey-purple. Small creamy white flowers appear on short stems in summer. The botanical name ‘inermis’ means ‘not armed’ – there are no barbs on seeds, unlike other species. Requires full sun to light shade, and well drained soil. Coverage approx 1 metre. 9cm pot. Certified organic plant.
