Lychnis coronaria
Easy care, drought and frost hardy border plant with attractive woolly silver foliage – the felt-like leaves were used as lamp wicks in olden days (Lychnis is Greek for ‘lamp’). Spires of flowers -white with blushes of pale pink – from late spring to summer – are wonderful for attracting butterflies. A short lived perennial which self seeds freely but is not invasive, and is at home in cottage garden or Mediterranean/xeriscaping gardens. Space 30cm apart, height to 60cm.
