Description
Sedum kamtschaticum
Also known as Orange Stonecrop
Pretty ground cover for hot dry spots, great for gravel gardens and xeriscaping, and perfect for living roofs! Mat-forming plant with glossy deep green leaves and golden yellow flowers opening from pink buds.
Medicinal uses include using fresh leaves to treat burns. The leaves (and also stems and tubers) of all sedums are edible, with a mild peppery, slightly bitter flavour. Although not poisonous, eating large quantities may cause stomach upsets. We find this species less tasty than the Blue Stonecrop. Due to the water held in the leaves, sedums can contribute to providing a good firebreak. See this article about the California bushfires.
