Description
Physalis alkekengi
Hardy herbaceous perennial related to the cape gooseberry. Also known as Chinese Lantern, it is easily identifiable by the large, bright orange to red papery covering over its fruit, which resembles paper lanterns and look stunning in the garden. Fully ripe fruits are still very tart but can be eaten raw or cooked and are twice as high in Vitamin C as lemons. Other parts are toxic. The plant has a long history of herbal use, but it is seldom used in modern practice.
9cm pot. Certified organic plant.
