Also known as coastal black gooseberry.  Scrubby deciduous bush (which can be trained to cordons or standards) with dark red (black when fully ripe) gooseberry-like fruit for eating fresh, making wine or jam. Excellent cropper. Very  thorny – would make a good burglar- proof hedge!  Prefers well drained, moist soil in sun or semi-shade.  Frost hardy.   Grows to approximately 2m.
