This particular form of California Lilac is the smallest in our range and forms a compact, evergreen nitrogen fixing shrub with small, oblong, glossy dark green leaves. In late spring, fluffy dark-blue flowers are produced from reddish purple buds. Height to 1m, spread 2m.
Suitable for most soil types except for waterlogged. Requires full sun and is extremely drought hardy, an excellent specimen for dry banks and hillsides.
None that we can be sure of, although the true species Ceanothus americanus was used medicinally by indigenous peoples of North America and is still used by herbalists today.
