Papaver somniferum
One of our favourite flowers, these are an East European heirloom developed for large pods with copious seeds. The seeds are tasty in bread and cakes and the pods look great dried. They are fun for kids to harvest, as they form their own little seed dispensers like a pepper pot!
Stunning mauve and purple flowers and blue-green toothed leaves.
Hardy annual. Self-seeds readily, always welcome in my garden!
Height to 100cm.
