Description
Elaeagnus angustifolia
Nitrogen fixing shrub or small tree (to 7m) with silvery leaves and stems. Highly aromatic flowers are followed by small edible fruit which are sweet when very ripe but slightly dry. The seeds are also edible and yield an oil with medicinal uses. The hard, fine-grained wood makes good fuel or can be used to carve domestic objects. Tolerates poor soils, wind and, once established, drought.
