Description
Aronia prunifolia
Deciduous, ornamental shrub with extremely nutritious currant-sized berries in mid summer, high in anti-oxidants and vitamin C. Suited to most soils. Height to 3m x 1.5m wide, good for hedging. Full sun or part shade. Self-fertile. Low maintenance. Frost hardy. The berries which are slightly astringent, are best cooked. They are rich in pectin, good for jam making, and can be added to other low-pectin fruits. Wine, fruit leathers and tea can also be made from the fresh berries, whilst fruit tea can be made from them when dried, and the North American Indians also dried them for pemmican. Good for attracting bees, soil stabilizing, and excellent for chook forage! PB5 certified organic plant
