ON SALE TO CLEAR!

A fast growing plant providing good ground cover, that grows like clover and will smother weeds.  It produces pretty red pea-like flowers followed by delicious winged pods combining the flavour of both peas and asparagus.  Harvest pods when 3cm long (no longer, or they will be fibrous and tough), steam and serve with butter. Seeds from larger pods can be cooked and eaten like peas.  Shoot tips can also be eaten in salads.  Cutting the plants back by half and feed with liquid fertiliser to trigger a second crop in autumn. Nitrogen fixing where symbiotic bacteria are present.

9cm pot.  Available Nov – Feb.

Medical disclaimer

Jo has a passion for growing herbs but is not a qualified herbalist and has no medical background.

We are lucky to have Patricia Beagle working here at times, who is qualified, and some of her advice does appear on these pages, but herbs act differently for different people and can interact with other medicines. We therefore always recommend that you consult with your own qualified health-care practitioner before using herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing or on any medications.
