Knautia macedonica
Classical clump-forming herbaceous plant related to the true scabious. Pincushion flowers vary in colour from blue-lilac to salmon, pink and red, and are borne on airy stems from summer to late autumn. The flowers are fantastic for attracting bees and butterflies, indeed this species is part of the Royal Horticultural Society “Plants for Pollinators” initiative to showcase plants which support pollinator populations by providing ample amounts of nectar and/ or pollen.
Native to South-eastern Europe, these plants are hardy perennials which enjoy full sun and are easy-care, doing well on any average garden soil. Clumps grow to 45cm wide and flower stems grow to a height of up to 75cm.
Certified Organic plant in 9cm pot.

Jo has a passion for growing herbs but is not a qualified herbalist and has no medical background.
We are lucky to have Patricia Beagle working here at times, who is qualified, and some of her advice does appear on these pages, but herbs act differently for different people and can interact with other medicines. We therefore always recommend that you consult with your own qualified health-care practitioner before using herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing or on any medications.
