Nine Star Perennial Broccoli

Price range: $12.50 through $16.50

Brassica oleracea
Truly perennial brassica producing a central creamy white cauli-flower head with many sprouting side shoots. Plants will sprout year after year if you don’t allow plants to go to seed (ie. you need to keep eating all the florets!). Plants grow tall (to 1 metre) and can be top heavy so we recommend staking them.

The plant was originally developed in the 1920s by Charles Curtis from Cambridgeshire in the UK.  Seeds and plants are quite rare, partly because Nine Star produces a lot less seed compared to other brassicas, and because it is not grown commercially.

Usually available late winter through spring, and again Autumn through early winter.

Certified organic plants.

Medical disclaimer

Jo has a passion for growing herbs but is not a qualified herbalist and has no medical background.

We are lucky to have Patricia Beagle working here at times, who is qualified, and some of her advice does appear on these pages, but herbs act differently for different people and can interact with other medicines. We therefore always recommend that you consult with your own qualified health-care practitioner before using herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing or on any medications.

Kahikatea Farm cannot take any responsibility for any adverse effects from the use of the plants or a plant not having the effect it is reputed to have.
