Ribes rubrum
Small hardy deciduous shrub producing racemes of translucent red berries in early summer. Slightly more tart than the black currants, these berries can be eaten raw but are more usually processed into preserves such as redcurrant jelly, a great meat accompaniment. Both fruit and leaves have medicinal uses, and both yield a dye. Height to 1.5m. Prefers moist soil. PB8 Certified organic plant.
