Living Roof

Living, or green roofs are aesthetically pleasing as well as having a raft of other benefits. Although not often an option for an entire house, they are perfect to consider for sheds, car ports, outside toilets, and other smaller structures. In urban areas they provide much needed greenery which is easy on the eye and provides a sense of calm, as well as mitigating the urban heat island effect. Living/green roofs help keep buildings cool in summer and warm in winter, reducing energy consumption and increasing comfort, and provide sound insulation too. They can also provide important habitat and food for wildlife. Typically the species used are low growing and drought hardy. Why not give that old garden shed a makeover now, and convert an otherwise dead space into a haven for bees and butterflies!
