Dye Plants

Colours have been extracted from various parts of plants (leaves, flowers, berries, roots, seeds and bark) and used to dye textiles for over 5,000 years. Although much of the knowledge of where to source plant dyes and how to use them died (dyed?!!) out following the discovery of synthetic dyes, there is a resurgence in their use now, as many people are becoming aware of the health and environmental impacts of synthetic equivalents. Why not grow your own dye plants and have a go at home!
